Pages: edit text above header

I have a document with letterhead on the first page. When the document is long enough for a second page, my name and a date from several years ago appear at the top of the page. This text is not in the Header, but above it. I want to either delete this text or edit the date to automatically update. The text remains if I disable headers and/or footers in the Document tab. I have version 11.1 (7031.0.102)

This does not apply to the OP as they are on Catalina with Pages older than the v11.2 required on Big Sur/Monterey, but after years of using the Section Master terminology, Apple has changed the naming convention on the Arrange menu to:

Look for a "Make background objects selectable" or similar in the Arrange menu,

then try to select the object holding the text.


Making the date update automatically will require placing the TODAY function in that space. to do that, you'll likely have to replace the Text box (which I suspect is the existing container) with a single cell Table, then place the function in that cell.
