Safari Monterey bookmarks do not stay extended

Hello, I have just upgraded to Safari Monterey for my Mac Air. If I go into View and show the sidebar for bookmarks. If I close Safari and re-open, I have to manually click on Favourites to have my bookmarks extend. Can anyone give me a step by step instruction how to have the bookmarks/favourites remain extended when I close and reopen Safari.

Please can you give me step by step instructions, as I have limited expertise.
