Why was I charged for the gift card that I received during the Black Friday promotion?

Hello,The problem I encountered while shopping was, I bought ipad and apple pencil from apple store on black friday,And got a gift card after order completion and checkout,But when I confirmed my bank account, I found that the gift card was also charged. Does anyone know why?

Because Apple’s Black Friday campaign was to buy products to give gift cards, but I was charged an extra gift card fee. There was no discount on the product and the fee was increased, which is unreasonable.

The Black Friday deal included only a gift card, not a discount and gift card. Review the terms and conditions at https://www.apple.com/shop/gifts/shopping-event/terms-conditions

i just spoke to cus service and was basically told the that's just the way they decided to do it. no rhyme or reason

Surely they took $100 off the ipad and gave me the gift card, now i'm paying back the $100. That was such a deceitful way to get $100 from me. I was fine paying full price for the Ipad, and I would have spent at least another $100 for the Apple pencil. Absolutely no reason to mislead or blatantly lie!

Same here. Waiting for Apple Support now. Black Friday deal was discounted device PLUS a gift card. $749 for ipad pro, PLUS $100 gift card.

If this is a misunderstanding, why was the gift card issued ONLY after the iPad shipped? There would be no reason for this.

You'd expect this off some shady website, but c'mon Apple...

You're wrong.

I bought an ipad for $799. With the purchase of this ipad, it was promoted with a $100 gift card.

I clicked the link. Made my purchase.

I got billed $799 + tax.

I then got billed another $100 for the gift card that was "promoted" for Black Friday incentive "When you buy a qualifying device" (varied by device)

If i wanted to BUY a gift card, I would have simply done that. I never added a GC to my order.

So what I did... was just pay full price for an iPad at $899? You call that a black friday deal?

They gave me a $100 break... then sold me back the $100 they just gave me? In what world does this make any sense?

It was not an either/or deal (card or price break). There was no where to indicate this... if this is what they're trying to tell people.

Furthermore, the "GC" wasn't sent until my device shipped (to prevent spending the promotional card and returning the device).

If I was simply buying a gift card, then why the delay? I could go buy one anytime day/night and get it immediately. What would be the reason for buying one separately here and waiting?

OK... I'm an idiot. But muguy - your assessment isn't correct either.

My ipad ($799 sale price) + tax was $842.69

My CC was actually charged $742.69... then 2 days later, a separate charge for... $100.

Still something not right there. Are they skimming sales tax dollars? Charging me tax on $799, yet billing me less and putting the rest to the gift card?

I'd like to know the reasoning behind 2 separate transactions for a single purchase.

So everyone else with this issue... check the other charge.

742.69 + 100 = 842.69. That's correct.

You are taxed on the entire transaction amount too, that's also correct.

As for two separate transactions, that's just a choice they made. Maybe for ease of returns. Maybe for ease of implementing the deal. Maybe for accounting reasons. Maybe you ordered online. Most likely because Apple charges when items are shipped, which may not have been at the same time.

No, I didn't expect to get a gift card, and never was told I would be getting ....a "gift card" is a "gift"....this is a charge added to my invoice I never expected and certainly don't want....I thought I was getting $100 off the price of the Mac Air, now I am going to return it unopened , when it arrives,

my 2015 Mac Air will contrition do just fine.

do just fine

The promotion was for a $100 gift card with the purchase of a MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and Mac mini. The promotional gift cards ranged from $50 to $200 depending on what was purchased. So, you purchased during the promo period, and received the promotion. Seems all is good. It might not be what you wanted but it is what was being offered.

The amount I actually paid to Apple is different from the amount shown on my invoice.

My invoice is the price after the "gift card" has been deducted, But I actually paid all the fees.

I have to spend more money to use the gift card…

The gift card should be "gift" instead of buying it myself.

If I know that it is such a "gift" and I don't want to buy it at all, why do I have to pay for the gift card? I think this is their usual method.

Jan 5, 2022 3:46 PM in response to muguy

This whole thing is shady AF. I did a straight-up purchase. If the $100 "gift card" was truly just a discounted price, why did it pad my order with another $100 GC that I didn't want?

Why hold a purchased gift card until the product shipped? If it was just a gift card - and not a promotional item... why not right away?

They issued a credit. I asked if that would void the GC. At first they said "yes", then they said they're just putting in for a credit. So I guess I'll know if/when I try to use it.
