haptic feedback not working after monterey update on macbook pro

I updated to the mac os monterey as soon as it was available, but my haptic feedback on trackpad stopped working. all the clicks are working fine....... just the vibration is missing........ any help?

i have tried reinstalling mac os, reseting smc and nvram and all but no solution...... will it be fixed with the next bug update or so?

Fixed mine!

For what its worth, mine came back after deselecting "force click and haptic feedback", doing a hard restart (holding power button until shutdown and then rebooting), and then reselecting "force click and haptic feedback"

That being said, this also happened to me once when I was on Catalina too. Same fix for it then.

Change Trackpad preferences on Mac

I've just reset the SMC and it appears to have reset the haptic controller too. Before that, I fiddled with every setting relating to the trackpad and even tried adjusting some settings in System Preferences/Accessibility/Pointer Control, all to no avail.

Never had this haptic failure problem (or any other) on any previous upgrade. Monterey 12.4 was the first time.

I have a 6-month old Air running an M1.

Good luck everyone.

Yep, exact same problem here - haptic feedback on the trackpad does not work at all, since upgrade to Mac OS Monterey. It did work 2-3 times in the early days of Monterey, but then stopped altogether. I even wiped the hard drive and reinstalled it freshly but still the same problem, so it's almost certainly a bug in Monterey.

Mine is a Macbook Pro 13 2020 Intel Core i5 model, now out of warranty. I'm shocked that Apple would allow this through testing, let alone not fix it extremely quickly, but it's been like it for over a month now.

How ironic that the cheapest laptop I own is the most reliable to use! (I own the above Macbook Pro, and also a HP Spectre X360 14 with Windows 11 that has its own issues although not as bad as the Macbook Pro, and a Acer Chromebook 713 which "just works" - never an issue, a pleasure to use, and for day-to-day use is my go-to machine - plus almost 15 hour battery life!).

I updated to 12.2 and see the issue as well, just a pain and inexplicable.

I would care less except I am suffering from repeated freezes of 10-30 seconds and then the system returns to life and haptics are gone. The force option is enabled, I've tried rebooting several times and no help, and process monitoring does not show anything sucking up resources (once mdsync was at 100% but it's happening throughout the day regardless of Time Machine activity).

I am really hating on the evolution of Apple software from amazing to I feel like the dark days of old Windows buggy installations. These relentless bugs are making it very hard to continue to purchase Apple hardware. My fancy 16" MacBook Pro is going back, can't keep it when it and my iMacs are in a daily cycle of things randomly freezing and dying.

For a trillion dollar company I expect better than shareware reliability.
