I am trying to make a slide show in photos. 49 photos. Don't use iCloud all photos are stored on the computer internet is connected and fine. I have a brand new MacBook Pro 16inch 2021 literally 5 days old 8TB hard drive 64 gB RAM and I keep getting this message An internet connection is required to download larger versions of this item for creating a slide show. then this error An error occurred while downloading one or more photos for the slide show. Please try again later.. I have seen this question asked before and nothing is helpful. Have started it in safe mode same error. The limit seems to be 24 photos less than that slide show works over that get the error

Hi - this error sometimes occurs when photos cannot find the original/master file. How did you transfer the library over to the new Mac from your old one?

Have you used iCloud in the past (eg on the old Mac) and have you ever used "optimise mac storage"?

Do you use (or have you used) referenced files (Circled option NOT selected)?

It might also happen if the images you have formats that are no longer compatible with MacOS - or have been edited with an older or external application and MacOS no longer recognises them for this reason (Eg an incompatible colour profile has been added). Are you able to "revert to original" any of the problem images.

Hi - It sounds like Photos no longer has access to the original photo.

What do you mean by "I stopped iCloud and it downloaded them to my Mac"? If you disable iCloud then it will not download anything after that. Or did you stop paying for your icloud plan? In which case, did you make sure all photos were downloaded from iCloud before stopping the plan?

Also - putting library on the desktop is not the best location, the destop may be itselfy syncing with iCloud - which will cause a problem for your library. I'd suggest moving it to your pictures folder.

What format was the hard drive you had the library on - if it was not a compatible format (APFS or MacOS Extended), this may have caused problems.

Your only recourse may be to recover from a backup made before the photos went missing.

They were stored in a os photo library on an external hard drive. I simply drag and dropped the library onto the desktop. The new make had to check and repair the library before it would open it.

Some of the photos were from iCloud but I stopped iCloud and it downloaded them to my Mac.

Not sure about referenced files.

I have isolated it to 7 photos they were taken with various cameras form IPhone 4 6 8 and a cannon. I can’t duplicate thee photos. It says failed to download assets for duplication and I cannot edit them it says an error occurred while preparing external edit (Cocoa error -1.) if I try to drag the photos onto my desktop it says the export failed to create a file for the photo identified below. I tried to revert to original which was successful but still doesn’t fix problem.
