Monterey crashes Mac mini while sleeping

After updating 2018 Mac mini to Monterey (V 12.0.1) once it goes into sleep mode, the system crashes and shuts down. I have to re-start, send the crash dump to Apple... very inconvenient. This occurs if I put the Mac to sleep manually or if it goes to sleep on its own.

I have not noticed any other issues... this does not occur while I am using the Mac.

The Mac is a "vanilla" configuration with no special hardware or software.

Any suggestions how to resolve? TIA

After performing the following troubleshooting steps with Apple support, this issue remains unsolved.

I am now aligned with hcsitas that preventing the Mac from sleeping is the best path forward.

Steps taken and result:

  • Disconnect all hardware - problem re-occurred
  • Start up in Safe Mode - problem re-occurred
  • Download new copy of Monterey - problem re-occurred
  • Remove all 3rd party software - problem re-occurred
  • Erase disk and perform clean install - problem re-occurred
  • Prevent entering sleep mode - no issue

I'm hopeful a future macOS version fixes the issue... for now I'll keep the Mac awake.
