⌘⇧S (Command + Shift + S)- not working

Following a clean install of macOS Monterey I cannot use the keyboard shortcut for 'Save As…' in Microsoft Office and Apple Pages. Both use ⌘⇧S (Command + Shift + S)

All other keyboard shortcuts are still working fine.

However, it does not work. I need to click on the menu item with the mouse to make it work.

I noticed it first on Microsoft Word, and called their help desk. They kindly showed me that the problem was also there on Pages, and that makes it an Apple problem.

Anyone else got this?

Anyone got a fix?

What it sounds like is you want the OS to behave as it did for decades before Apple moved the keyboard shortcuts around starting in Lion.

a) Open the System Preferences. Click on Keyboard, then the Shortcuts tab.

b) Click on App Shortcuts in the left column, then click the + button below that.

c) This box will appear.

d) In Menu Title:, type Save As and then press Option+; to get a true ellipses. Do not type three periods.

e) Highlight the Keyboard Shortcut: field and press Command+Shift+S .

f: Click the Add button.

Close the System Preferences. Save As will now be Command+Shift+S in all apps.

I think I've misled you somehow. So I will try again … the issue is not 'Save As…'

On my MBA 2020 M1 with a clean install of Monterey, the keyboard shortcut combination of ⌘⇧S is not working. All other keyboard shortcut are working fine.

This means that

'Duplicate' in Pages, Preview and Pixelmator Pro is not working. ⌘⇧S is a standard keyboard for all of these. I am not attempting to change anything.

It is also affecting other apps where ⌘⇧S is the standard default for other actions, e.g. in Microsoft Office it is the standard for 'Save As…'

⌘⇧S has worked correctly, out-of-the-box on all my Macs since 2002, and even on this current MBA until I installed Monterey. When all the actions above stopped working with this shortcut.

dialabrian - once again, I do not care about 'Save As…' this was my mistake to mislead you.

In the three screen shots below, you can see that ⌘⇧S maps to 'Duplicate'. This is not hidden, and this is not a change to the standard app shortcuts. One is Preview, one is Pages and one is Pixelmator.

In all cases, the shortcut is not working. This is the issue.

Can you help with that?

The whole point of posting here was to ask for help in getting it to work on my machine.

I have 4 Monterey installs, 3 on Intel Macs and 1 M1 Mac. The M1 Mac will open new windows but none of the Intel Macs will.

You're absolutely correct. That would create a "Save As…" command using "command shift S". The only problem is, what the user was saying in the end was "command shift S" is not creating a "Duplicate" in any app.

Yeah, I wasn't quite sure where the OP is trying to get to. The initial post states not being able to use Command+Shift+S for Save As specifically in MS Office and Pages. Did that mean he's trying to fix something the OS is doing he doesn't want? Getting unexpected results from one app to another?

I don't even care which one was causing the problem, I've deleted them all and will easily live without.

Third party apps aren't evil, of course (I have lots of 3rd party stuff on my Mac), but badly written ones can cause unexpected problems.

Spelling error on my part above. It's Ka-Block! , not K-Block!.

FWIW, I just checked a number of apps and some are in fact command shift S, some are not. I don't know if you can globally change them all to the same shortcut.

I believe that's the root of the problem. In Monterey, a number of apps now have "Save as…" hidden. Some don't. So for each app you have to remember which is which.

Yes. I understand. We're over the "Save as…" bit. :)

All I can say at this point is, "command shift S" creates a duplicate in Preview, Pages and Pixelmator Pro, but in a new tab, not a new window.

Here I opened an image in Preview, then pressed "command shift s" 3 times so I have the original plus 3 duplicates…

I believe the OP's issue is pressing "command shift S" is not creating a copy/duplicate. Not deleting or saving one.
