iPhone 13 pro Speaker Sound Issue

Hi, I am having issues with the speakerphone of my new iPhone13 pro. When I am on calls and switch the speaker on, the person on the other end of the call cannot hear me clearly. They complain my voice is breaking up or they have a hard time hearing me. This is not a network issue since the moment I switch the speakerphone off, the issue is resolved. I have experienced this issue about 8 out of 10 times, so, it is quite frequent. The speaker otherwise works fine and I have tried recording videos and voice memos and they play well on the speaker mode.

Make sure you are talking towards the mic at the lightning port end with phone within arms length to avoid the noise cancelling cutting in. (it can be turned off in Settings, Accessibility, Audio visual)

If it still malfunctions after that take it in or send it in for repair .

My husband has the 13 Pro Max and he switched from android. Every time we FaceTime or talk on the phone on his breaks at work…he cuts out to bad. He can hear me perfectly fine. But he talks and every other word is cut. So, he takes his AirPods and he has to use them or I cannot hear him. When he doesn’t have them I am constantly saying “huh, what? You there?!” 🫥🙄🫣🙃

I have contacted Apple and have had my iPhone 13 Pro (Blue) changed twice! And, once again, the person on the other end, while talking on speaker phone, said to me "What did you say? You keep breaking up." I'm about to scream! I loved my original phone, except for this issue, and now this is the second replaced phone that has this issue. I will be calling up Apple Again to get it replaced, again! 3rd times a charm? I hope! And, I see some replies above talk about a sim card? iPhone 13 Pro's have Esims. So, there is no physical sim to replace it here in the United States. This is a HUGE PROBLEM and I will think twice about buying another iPhone. The customer service is first rate but their $1500 phone has major issues! It can't perform the most basic of functions, which is the ability to talk on the iPhone using a speaker phone. It is definately an issue with the noise cancelation So, there is a hardware, software, issue at hand. Unbelieveable Apple. ifreakin' Unbelievable.

This is very interesting, and I will give this a try.

I did not know about the third mic at the top front of the phone, it seems logically like THAT would be the best one to use in speakerphone mode, especially in an auto hands free mode. Why you would be using the mic on the backside of the phone I don’t get, except to record something happening in front of you.

I was told and read online that the microphone on the back was to detect ambient noise.

I am the ATT tech who posted what I discovered, and it did improve this very frustrating problem at least for me.

it does seem like a noise canceling issue and they removed the option to turn off noise canceling.

I wouldn’t even consider a 14 till I see a solution, I use speakerphone in the car a lot…

I had another Apple Senior Advisor acknowledge yesterday that a.) there are three Mics on the iPhone 13; b.) that when the phone is placed face down, the rear microphone (in the camera lens section) is activated; and c.) (get this), the bottom microphone trades roles with the rear mic to handle noise cancellation. If Apple is guilty of anything, (and I'm not saying they aren't), it's being too clever by half. Depending on how you hold the phone or set it down, the microphone functionality can change for each of the three mics, or at least two of the three. Hoping iOS 16 might simplify a thing or two!

I have had this same issue. When I did a search online, it sounds like the issue is very very common and has been since the iphone 13 pro first came out. There are countless articles on this as well. The upsetting thing is that despite how common this appears to be, Apple has not responded at all with any information on a fix to this issue. One article said it should be something an iOS update can resolve once Apple chooses to acknowledge it. Until then, the only fix is not to use the speaker phone. Very disappointing!

Hi!

I am struggling with the same issue! I have 13 pro max. At first I thought that it’s my friends phones problems. But after time I tried with different people using different SIM cards and everybody told me that my voice is breaking all the time when we try to speak in the same time. I can hear them but when they are talking they can’t hear my questions. like I was silent. At first I thought that people are ignoring me 🤣

I did everything what apple asked me to do. Then I gave it to apple service and they are saying everything is working perfectly fine. I showed them a problem in person when I went pick up my phone and they acknowledged the issue now and sent the iPhone to main Service… it’s so frustrating bc I have also 11 pro max and there is no issue, everybody can hear me perfectly fine!

if you read this please tell here about your similar problem! Maybe apple will take care of it when they see there is more people like that! 🤞🤞🤞

I purchased the iPhone 13 pro max as soon as it came out and I was at the Apple Genius Bar within a matter of weeks and they pretty much insisted there was nothing wrong with it. I use my phone on the speaker setting 90% of the time when making business calls, and what generally happens is that the speaker will continually revert from “speaker” setting back to “iphone” setting during conversations. And that makes it difficult to conduct business, while using the computer, because the sound drops and the person on the other end will no longer be able to hear me and and will say that I’m breaking up and I will not be able to hear them either. Why is Apple ignoring this issue and why have they not addressed it at all when it is obviously a problem. I may have to open a credit card claim as well, to get some action from Apple, if this is not taken care of. As far as I am concerned, it really, for me, makes this phone useless.
