Apple TV Remote Permanent Volume Up IR Sending

You mentioned trying some troubleshooting already including disabling the Infrared Receiver. Before disabling IR, did you have the chance to try any of the steps in, If your Apple TV remote isn’t working? Let's enable IR again and go over those steps because they might help.

Just wanted to say I've had a variation on this issue today and it was driving me mad!

We have 4 dimmer switches in our living room with IR control and today the lights all started continually and unstoppably cycling from bright to dark and back, as they do when receiving a continual button press on the remote.

You can imagine it took some time before I even realised this was due to continuous IR "noise" in the room and to then identify that it was the Apple TV remote causing the problem.

Just lucky it was not continually turning the TV or AVR on and off, which I imagine could have caused some serious damage after a while. Or, even worse, our gas fire also has an IR control!

This is really a serious issue and Apple need to get on it before it causes serious harm somewhere.

Same thing happened to me but IR blasting volume down! Your reset sequence on the SIRI remote worked! I was ready to buy a new Main board for my TV. THANK YOU!

Tv menu button + volume down for 5 sec worked for me too.

Great stuff, MajorApple. My remote was rather suddenly and constantly attempting to pair itself and blasting my cable box’s IR receiver. Holding the “down” and “menu” buttons for around 10 seconds instantly fixed the issue.

This needs to be much more clearly highlighted on Apple support - if you have an Apple TV remote - perform a reset with the Home button (TV Icon) and the volume down for 5-10 seconds - in a support article it mentions that it resets the remote - but it should be it's own standalone article - I had an Android TV (Sony OLED) - that was going in and out of talking assistant mode because of the Apply TV remote. I reset my entire configuration, removed the network, etc. I am very frustrated.

Today mine started alternating between ALL UP and ALL DOWN. I only figured it out by sticking my hand over the end of the Apple TV remote and seeing the TV's volume meter go away.

Diagnosing this issue is the hard part, fixing it is easy. I wasted a lot of time isolating various parts of my home entertainment setup, as the symptom simply was that my TV volume kept increasing to 100% no matter what I did.

I almost blew my speakers several times today. Also disturbed my neighbors with uncontrollable high volume from TV several times.

I have never experienced an errant IR device like this, spontaneously interfering with other devices.

I agree that Apple should amplify this common issue, and find a fix for it.

I changed my settings to this one and it fixed that problem It was driving me insane I tried all the things people were saying and nothing worked but when I change it to this setting fixed the problem instantly

Thank you so much for posting this. I had this problem out of the blue and couldn't figure it out. I was assuming it was going to be a hardware issue but tried a Hail Mary searching the internet.

I've always been leery of discussion board answers and so I took this answer with a big, skeptical grain of salt and gave it a try. It worked PERFECTLY!

Thanks for posting this fix. Out of the blue, mine started to transmit IR commands continuously as my IR repeater was showing constant activity. I didn’t even realize this remote will control the TV but it kept bringing up voice commands on my television and it was driving me crazy. The above recommendation corrected the issue after about six seconds of holding the two buttons down.

This was driving me crazy too. I am using a brand new Apple TV 4K, it (I guess the remote?) just went crazy and increasing the volume on both my TV and AVR.

The magical TV and Down Volume combo worked for me as well but seriously how did this make it through QA straight into a new product line????

My apple remote keep turning the mute on and off and over powering my tv and cable controls. Glad I found this thread , 30 seconds later, my problem was solved. Thanks.
