Combining PDF's with preview - I end up with blank pages

Hi

I am combining several PDF's using Preview. When I open the combined document, some of the documents are blank. Please tell me how to resolve this.

Preview will not save merged PDFs I'm combining three PDF files into one, something I have done many hundreds of times. All of a sudden (since the last time I tried a month or so ago), I merge the files, save it, close it, and then when I reopen it, I'm back to only the first document! The first document requires an inserted blank page, and that seems to be causing the problem--and honestly, this has never happened before, and I've been doing this for years. As an experiment, I tried merging the first document AFTER I had merged the other two, and then inserting the blank page. On reopening, the blank page is gone. What do I have to do to get this to behave normally? Thank you, Mark

Unable to combine pdf in preview PDF's not combining? Show thumbnails on the side by by clicking View from top menu bar. .Try inserting a blank page after the last page of the first pdf. Then drag and drop your next pdf just before the blank page into the thumbnails. Apple support provided this remedy.

I am wondering if it has to do with file size (the files are a few MB each and it is adding up), but they are the files I have to combine! I see this problem discussed here: Preview freezes when trying to merge PDF … - Apple Community I have tried the idea of re-reading and writing the files out again. It seems to help somewhat, but I am still having problems, so I am reaching out for ideas. I am using Preview 11.0 with Monterey 12.6.1. The files were originally created with MS Word, although I also tried reexporting them with Preview.
