annoying error about iPhotos each time I back up my iPhone

I'm getting an error message every time I back up my iPhone to my mac (using Finder).

"Photos cannot be synced to the iPhone because your iPhoto Library could not be found. Open iPhoto to create or update your iPhoto Library."

It doesn't seem to stop the process but I have to click ok to continue. I've got Big Sur on my Mac and 15.1.1 on my phone. iPhoto is long gone, replaced by Photos. I've migrated all my photos already. I can open the Photos app and import the photos from my phone.

Someone suggested making sure the Photos preference "Use as System Photo Library" was checked, which is already is. Does anyone know how to get rid of this error message?

thanks for the suggestion but it didn't help. someone else had this same question a while back but no one replied. the question was old enough i couldn't add onto it, so i thought i'd ask again. the funny thing is that i'm not using 'sync' for photos - i open the photo app and import them separately. if it helps anyone, here's the actual popup that i see during every backup:

"save" just puts the text of the error in to a file Error.txt in my home dir. i don't have iPhoto anymore, obviously, and i certainly don't want to add photos to an obsolete library.

Edit: fix image of my error message.
