iMessage and Wifi
If you’re connected to a wifi source, but aren’t getting connection (e.g. haven’t signed into so and so login), cab you send and receive texts?

We understand that you’d like some information on whether or not being connected to a wireless network, but not signing in will allow you to receive and send messages on your iPhone.
Your iPhone can still send and receive text messages using your carrier’s servers even when connected to a wireless network that doesn’t have an internet connection.
