Keyboard not working

Tried turning on my MacBook after not having it for 20 months, now some of the keys aren’t working and I can’t login or reset or anything. Obviously I need to take it in for a service but would like to back up etc. Is there anyway of getting an onscreen Keyboard from the lock/login screen?

Interesting opening statement, what is the back story here...maybe that is a clue(?)

Why do say the keys are not working...(?)

Verify your Caps lock is not on—psswd are case sensitive.

You will not see the psswd in the clear.
