Updating my phone

How do I force update my phone? I have the iPhone 6 Plus and it's only updated to 12.5.5, I got it from a family member so it hasn't been updated in a while and it doesn't allow me the option to update through the phone. I need to update it so I can connect my phone to my new apple watch.

My phone will not update. Hello. My question is how do I get my phone to update to the latest iPhone version? I’ve read online and have tried everything. my phone is connected to a charger at night. My phone is ALWAYS connected to WiFi. my internet connection is great. I have it preset to automatically update when an update is available. I have not had any issues with updates until recently. device states there is no new updates. How do I update when it is on 12 and I know there is an update? The device is not up to date on iOS. What do I need to do to update it. I am trying to add a watch to my phone and it will not let me cause the phone is not updated.

That model can not be updated further.
