Mouse double clicking no working

Hi all, I have an iMac (10 YO) running High Sierra and suddenly double clicking with my mouse doesn’t open a file or a folder. To do that I have to right click and select “open” from the pop up window. I have done anything that I know such as restart, PRAM, trying another mouse, etc, nothing work. Any idea? Thanks in advance for any advice!

I just solved this problem on my MacBook Pro M1MAX. Go to Accessibility and then to Pointer Control . Bring the Double-Click Speed down to medium or low. If it is set too fast, it will not work. Hope this works for you.

Start with this...

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes.

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.
