Permanent eggshell mode use killing battery?

Hi Mac users, I have a question about using a MacBook Pro (or Air) mostly in eggshell mode (built-in screen closed and connected to a third-party monitor). You need to be connected to a power adaptor to do this, but I am told at the Apple Store that keeping the MacBook permanently plugged in eventually kills the battery.

Does anyone know a good way around this? I use the MacBook Pro at home for translating/word processing 90% of the time, but sometimes need to take it elsewhere so am reluctant to get a Mac Mini instead.

Any suggestions welcome! Thanks.

Use a Projector:

I'm aways using a projector (for using iTunes and such). It has worked fine for me for years. It is a Brookstone one, and projects small on a screen, and use off the wall. So, consider doing the same.

A Battery Going Dead:

All batteries are prone to failure, and will eventually ware out. That's just the way it is. :(
