Got a mail saying I used 50% of my iCloud storage, iPhone says different

Hello,

Recently bought an iPhone 13, and I just got this mail:

With iCloud Backup, you’re keeping all the apps on your iPhone automatically backed up each night. To automatically upload your photos and videos to iCloud and free up space on your iPhone, we recommend you turn on iCloud Photos. So far, you’ve filled up over half of your free 5 GB of iCloud storage. For HUF299.00 a month, you can get iCloud+ with 50 GB of storage.

However on my iPhone I see this:

Which one is correct?

FYI: I'm using a different cloud provider for my photos.

Hello fritsidani,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand your confusion as the messages states that you're using half of your 5GB iCloud storage while when you check your iCloud usage on your iPhone, it shows less than that. We'd be happy to look into this with you.

Are you signed in with your Apple ID on any other Apple devices like an iPad, iPod, or Mac? If so, please try to check the iCloud storage by following these steps:

Check your iCloud storage online or on any device

Also, do you still see the same iCloud storage after restarting your iPhone normally?

Restart your iPhone

Please let us know the results. Kind regards.

Hello fritsidani,

Thanks for following up with us. It looks like you're having issues with your iCloud Storage, and we'd be happy to look into this more.

Are you part of a Family Sharing group? Do you have a recent backup of your iPhone on iCloud, or your computer?

If not, please follow these steps to create a backup:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Then, sign out of iCloud on your iPhone, restart your device, then sign back in again.

Sign out of iCloud on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV, or Mac

Restart your iPhone

Check if iCloud Storage is the same on your iPhone settings, and if you still getting these emails after completing these steps.

If the issue persists, please reach out to Apple Support to investigate this issue further. Here's how to contact them:

Hello nbotros,

Tried restarting my phone, but it still shows the same thing. Checked icloud.com as well from my iPhone and from an Android phone as well. They both show that I have plenty of free capacity.

And now I got another email from iCloud saying that my storage is almost full, I only have ~500 MBs left.

I have an apple account for quite a few months now, because of my Apple TV 4K, but I didn't have an iPhone until I bought one 2 weeks ago. We are on our honeymoon right now, and I'm taking lots of lots of pictures, but as I mentioned iCloud Photos is turned off.

Any help is greatly appretiated.

Hello fritsidani,

Thanks for getting back to us with those additional details. We understand your concern about the message you're getting about iCloud being full. Let's continue working on this together.

Were you able to sign into iCloud website on a web browser on your computer, and check your storage? If so, does it show the same information showing on your iPhone?

Also, then you mention getting messages, are these text messages, or emails? Do these messages look legitimate?

Here's how to identify messages not from Apple:

Recognize and avoid phishing messages, phony support calls, and other scams

Let us know your findings. Cheers!
