Ive just upgraded my Macbook pro 13inch (2017) to monterey and I have only 21mb free disc space. I did free up some space (14GB) and that free space appeared in the info on my HD. I then watched the free space reduce without any programs open back down to 21mb!! . What is eating the space ??
The non-category "Other" always shows huge. Most of that cannot
be controlled by the user. Highly documented; often questioned.
Some ideas about what the Other may be, and what can be tried to make use of it all:

This category primarily includes files and data used by the system,

[Also included are temporary files, fonts, app support files, & plug-ins.]
"..You can't manage the contents of this category. The contents are
managed by macOS, and the category varies in size depending
on the current state of your Mac.."
Could include many extra APFS partitions
owned by System, some are not writable.
