Migrating from an old (2010 High Sierra) Macbook Pro to a brand new Macbook Pro - Will Time Machine work?

Greetings-

Can I successfully use Time Machine Backups to move from my Mid 2010, OSX 10.13.3 High Sierra Macbook Pro to a new 16" Macbook Pro with the Apple chip? I assume the new machines are shipping with Monterey. I can't further upgrade the OS on my old machine and I'd like to know if the backup made by that version of Time Machine would be properly read by the most recent version.

Thank you!

Yes, it will work.

Yet, using a Time Machine backup is one way to set up your new Mac. Another more convenient way would be to use the Migration Assistant. This article will show you how: Move your content to a new Mac - Apple Support.

Important: your 32-bit applications will no longer work on macOS Monterey. You will have to download the newer 64-bit versions, which could imply paying for them if they are not free.

As previously mentioned 32 bit application will not work at all,, nor will anything including drivers, extension and such.

It is my consider opinion - if migrating only migrate the User Account and nothing more.

Any new Applications are best to download directly from the Developers after verifying they are Monterey and Apple Silicon ARMs compatible.

I did a little reading (including the article from 6x6) and I think I'm ready to order my new Macbook. Rosetta is still part of the latest OS. I've heard Pro Tools (a rather resource intensive program) runs quite well under Rosetta (until they come up with an Apple Silicon version). Thanks to you both (6x6 and P. Phillips) for your advice.
