Using icloud storage without syncing to macbook

I have signed up for 2 TB storage on icloud but only have a 250 gig hard drive on my macbook air.

I want to upload 1.5TB of data from a portable hard drive to icloud but can't seem to figure out how to do this. If I try to do this via web browser I can only do it file by file–which obviously won't work. But I can't do it via my macbook because I don't have enough space on there. I obviously don't want to sync all this data on my macbook but just wanted it backed up in the cloud

I have had no such issues with google drive or onedrive—any suggestions?

Appreciate the response but that doesn't answer my question.

Compress, then Decompress:

Upload the compressed file to iCloud. Then, decompress the folder in iCloud.

  1. Create: a Folder
  2. Drag & Drop: all desired files and folders into the folder
  3. Compress: the folder (right-click, and then select "Compress [folder name]"
  4. Drag & Drop: the compressed folder in iCloud
  5. Decompress: the Folder (Double-click the folder)
  6. Open: the Folder
