HP Smart App Not Responding

I'm running HP Smart version 13.2.1 and when I try to use it to scan or print, it wants me to sign in. I click that option and after a a bit, it says "uploading account" with a spinning circle. I've left it for 5-10 minutes and this screen stays the same, so I can't do anything with this app.

Looking on the HP support site, it recommended removing the app and its Library files, then installing the app again from the Mac App Store. I did this - same result.

I'm running macOS Big Sur 11.6.1 on a 2018 Mac Mini. Any suggestions?

It turns out that the problem was not with the HP Smart app, but with Safari. I changed my default browser to Chrome and when the HP Smart App prompted me to sign in, I clicked on the sign in button and a Chrome window opened up looking for me to sign in to HP. I entered my HP credentials, clicked on Sign In and the Chrome window closed and I was taken back to the HP Smart app, which was then fully functional.

So there was something about Safari that was preventing the HP Smart app from opening up a Safari window to let me sign in there. Some security settings in Safari? Privacy settings?

In any case, the HP Smart app is now working. Now I need to decide whether to with my default browser back to Safari.

I have the same problem, the app doesn’t open and I need it to set up my printer, on an 2014 iPad
