1st Gen AirPods keep disconnecting

1st Gen AirPods keep disconnecting. They have been well cared for, have a full charge, and have been updated running 6.8.8. For no apparent reason they disconnect, first the right then shortly after the left one. If I place them back in the case and reconnect they show over 90% battery and they work for 1-2 songs before doing the exact same thing again. My wife’s does the exact same thing. This wasn’t a gradual degradation of the battery, this happened suddenly. Ironically it began shortly after the newest AirPods came out. I’ve seen thousands of similar posts since this began happening. I’m not happy about being forced to buy new AirPods because a software update made mine and my wife’s obsolete.

Thanks for getting back to us about this, AllenSpeeds. There are no known issues that would be causing this behavior, so we definitely want to look into this further with you. Since it is happening with both of your devices, we'd advise checking this article next: Resolve Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues caused by wireless interference. This could be occurring in your location, which would explain this happening with multiple sets of AirPods.

We also advise testing in a different location, while connected to and disconnected from your networks, and with streamed vs downloaded music. This will help narrow down the source of this behavior.

Additionally, if this behavior is unable to be resolved, seeking further help would be advised. We want to make sure you reach the right team for help with your AirPods. We recommend that you contact Apple Support directly. Depending on your region, you may be able to reach them here: Get Support.

Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities and have a wonderful day.

The is for the response and suggestions. I taken those steps for both mine and hers multiple times. After doing that we each get about 1-3 songs maximum before the right piece goes out then shortly thereafter the left. Both our batteries show 90% plus. I seriously doubt it’s a hardware issue since it happen to both ours about the same time. We are both running iPhone 8 and both phones and AirPods are updated. We’ve tried using each other’s and it still happens. With the huge number of people having the same issue I’d say it has to be a software problem. Please, please investigate this. We sure miss enjoying them. We both have all the Apple products and are both highly disappointed right now with our AirPods. It has shaken our faith in Apple.

Thanks for getting back with me. I did read that article and I followed the advise. I continue to have the same problem with both devices. I tried both AirPods at 2 different locations to no avail. My iPads work fine in the same locations. With so many people reporting the exact same problem occurring about the same time I believe it’s a software issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
