Ringer volume
My new iphone XR When a phone call comes in the ring volume is loud for the first ring and then it drops way down in volume.

If Settings > Accessibility > Face ID & Attention > Attention Aware Features is on, the volume will automatically decrease as soon as the phone will decrease the volume as soon as it recognizes that it has your attention.
