AirPods Connection Rejected - Help

When I try to connect my AirPods I keep getting a “Connection Rejected” notification. I tried restarting and then going to Apple menu > System Preferences, then Bluetooth. I clicked the x button next to the device's name and removed the Bluetooth device and repeated the pairing process again, but the connection is still being rejected.
