When I search for a document (pdf, doc or odt) from my USB memory stick in the find bar, I can see and locate the document that I want. The issue comes when I double click to open it (or when I hit the space bar for a preview), the document is a different one, mainly from random, older folders. This has happened already several times. I had to close the system and start over. This solution is disrupting. Is there another way to get this fixed?

Boot to Safe Mode. That boot up takes minutes and clears caches and other things that may resolve your problem.

Does this happen for documents on your startup disK?
If not how is the USB memory stick formatted?
Does this happen with other USB storage devices?
Doe this happen with the USB device on other computers?

I have only noticed it on my documents in the external hard-drive, which happens to work perfectly on another Macbook. This is the only external hard-drive that I have used in the last months. The format is Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
