Can I use a 2008 IMac computer as a bigger screen for my 2021 Macbook Air laptop?

I have a 2008 IMac and want to use it as a bigger screen for my Macbook Air. Can I do that? I tried doing it with an HDMI cable and it did not show up.

MacBook Air (2020 or later)

Hi,

iMac 2008 isn't supported as Target Display Mode. See following document.
