Photo's app on OSX 12.1 crashes when trying to use a photo library that is not on the primary volume.

I am not able to get the Photo's app to open when I choose a library from an external disk. I can only use photo libraries from / I am thinking there is a permissions issue in OSX as it never asks photos if for permission to access the external drives, instead it just crashes. Any ideas on a work around?

It used to work all the time, but now I get an error message. I wanted to change the access rights for the external drive, but this is not possible within the finder / information window. Interestingly, I had two different libraries on the SSD. I copied the smaller one to the internal drive of my MacBook and then I was able to open it. Even after copying this library to a second SSD it was still accessible. However, the other library is too big for my internal drive. Therefore, I copied it directly from one SSD to the other. Foto Library I have a MacBook Pro 13" 2020 M1, I have trouble with Photo Library. I have moved the photo library on an external drive and since the last software upgrade I had no issue. Now, after the software upgrade, when I try to open photo library from external drive the message is: "Photos was unable to open the library “MYNAME.photoslibrary”. (4302)" How can it be solved? Thanks I advance

Can no longer open alternate Photo libraries I created a secondary Photos library as a way to archive older photos to "cold storage". Since the last MacOS patch (Big Sur 11.3), I can no longer open this secondary library. Thought that I might be an issue with my external drive, so I tried creating a new library, on the local drive in the same folder, using the same method, previously employed and I receive the same error message when attempting to open. Mind you, newly created, empty library on local hard drive, will not open: I found the solution to the above issue!! If I copy my alternate photos library to the same folder where my system library is stored (/Users/username/Pictures), it opens without issue. If I move it to any other location, even a folder within the above named folder, I get the same error message above. Apple should update documentation clarifying this limitation/requirement.

How is the external disk formatted? It must be either one of the two shown below:

Any other format will lead to crashing and corruption of the library eventually.

Thank you very much. It is indeed formatted as exfat. I will try that.
