Do not disturb not working Mac

I have do not disturb turned on but Mail still makes sounds when new mail arrives. My settings are right as far as I can see.

In fact, there is a general bug with app-triggered Do Not Disturb. For instance, I set Focus to go to DND mode whenever I’m on Zoom. Exactly five minutes after DND is enabled, it spontaneously disables, even if I don’t switch to another app. After some testing, I find that *any* app trigger holds for only five minutes. (I have confirmed that there is no focus-stealing app running in the background.) This is on a M1 Mac mini running OS 12.1.

Fortunately, there is an easy workaround. Create your own Focus setting that blocks notifications (thus acting like the stock DND mode) when an app is triggered. User-created Focus settings do not appear to suffer from the five-minute restriction.

Same thing is happening to me! I refuse to turn off the mail notifications because I am constantly getting emails from students, committees, or my advisor and I need to know when they come in, but if I'm in a zoom meeting or trying to work and have Do Not Disturb (DND) on, I'm still getting email notifications. What's worse: If I'm screen-sharing on zoom and get an email, the notification also pops up in the corner, and lets everyone know that my package has been shipped, that my credit card/bank statement is ready for viewing, or whatever else those people have no business knowing...

I have found that quitting the mail app while I'm on DND helps, then reopening it when I turn DND off, but that's a bandaid as far as I'm concerned.

For the record, I'm on Monterey v12.1, if that helps to figure it out faster.

Bruce,

While turning off Notifications all together is an option here, it doesn't seem that this is the way Do Not Disturb should be working. If you have the opportunity, we'd like to have you work with Apple directly to dig further in on this situation.

Focus is a new feature in macOS Monterey and though Do Not Disturb is not, there seems to be some cross over that's preventing the Mail app from behaving as described with notifications.

I am having the same issue since installing Monterey and it's quite disconcerting as I need to record on my Macbook pro - both auditions and voiceovers - and these notification sounds can ruin take after take - not to mention interrupt an important Zoom meeting. Turning off alerts all together is an option for now, though not convenient to have to turn this on and off throughout the day. Thanks for your attention to this.

** Another issue since installing Monterey is that Bluetooth used to automatically pair my keyboard, mouse and external Bose speaker. Now, I need to repeatedly click "on" and "off" these devices in the Bluetooth drop down to get them to pair. It's quite tedious and I really miss the automatic, efficient pairing pre-Monterey. I hope this can be resolved! Thanks so much for your help.

This issue is very annoying and needs to be fixed!

I switch on focus mode and do not disturb to work on something that requires concentration, and just as I reach my zone, the notification sound from the mail app rings every single time and throws me right out of it. No, I'm not willing to silence my Mail notifications sounds because I still want to hear the ding when I'm using my Mac normally. Please, please provide a fix.
