Battery drain on watch series 7

I just got the apple watch series 7 a couple of weeks ago and have been experiencing short battery life. Even with most functions/ background app refresh etc turned off, the watch can only last 10 hours after a full charge. It can barely get through a work day. Battery % drops close to 10% per hour.

Have tried resetting, unpairing etc, hasn't worked to resolve this issue.

This happened on watchOS 8.1.1 and 8.3.

Does any one else have this problem?

I agree. It drove me nuts too!

I ended up making an appointment with the Genius Bar because all other methods had failed me.

Was told that the watch battery was likely discharging abnormally.

Exchanged it for a new one - battery life seems ok on this one. But I will try it out for a few days first before making any conclusions.

I thought I would have a look at Get Support.

Did so and it sent me to The Apple chat that I have had a month now and is a continuous thread.

So done that won’t even give a tee shirt.

Then clicked on Apple Developer.

was scrolling down for about 10 minutes and nothing whatsoever about anything to do with this.

I don’t think you have seen it yourself. Do us all a favour and look for yourself please.

Thanks for offering but got zilch out of both.

I do thank you as it is worth trying anything to get my Watch charged in the house.

You want your watch to charge in the house? You've fumed longer than it would have taken to go to your local Best Buy (or equivalent store) or Amazon or an Apple Store and bought yourself a 20w USB C Charging plug and plugged the new charging cable you got with your new watch into the charging plug.

What you expect from other users here is a mystery to me. There are solutions available to you. Don't buy non-MFI certified 3rd party parts or use Apple Branded parts and you'll be able to charge your watch anywhere you want.

Or stay here and keep complaining, which at the end of the day, gets you absolutely, completely, utterly, nothing.

Cheers!

I’m having the same problem, mine last 8 - 9 hours. I got it 2 weeks ago as a gift from my husband. Before this one I had the watch 2 and that will last me 2 days and I used it more than I used the 7. Last night I charged my watch 7 and removed it from the charger at 1am with full battery life, I left it over my nightstand and this morning at 8am the battery was half way gone, without me using it. I hope I can return it, even when I hate to return a present.

I think I speak for many when I say: it’s time to fix this issue or issue a recall.

I have been on board with apple products since the 80’s. I currently have in my home 2 iWatches, 6 iPads, and an apple laptop etc… this is not what I have come to accept from apple. I have always purchased their product because it has been superior. C’mon Apple get it together!

Just got the series 7 cellular and gps after 4 years with the series 3. Wanted to start tracking sleep but watch can’t even make it to the end of the day and haven’t even activated the cellular. Don’t even use it for exercise. What a waste of money. So disappointed with this. Even more disappointed with the iPhone 13 I got on the same day which drains as fast as the series 7. Apple truly seems to be taking a nose dive. Pity. I’ve been a loyal customer for over a decade.

I have a Watch series 6 & 7 (the 7 I bought today), they are both experiencing short battery life? This started on Thursday the 27 with my 6, and is also happening with my 7(I started with a full charge at 2:30) and now at 8:19 it is at 42%. My 6 only lasts 8 to 9 hours. I thought it was my 6 but now realize it something else. Does anyone know what is going on, I reset the 6 and the 7 is brand new. Thank you

I just got mine this weekend - Series 7 Stainless - it wouldn't charge for a while, just got really hot. So I jiggered things around and charged it until it had a full green circle. At 4:40 this afternoon, it was fully charged (100% green circle) so I got on the phone with ATT to set it up. All set up and then I used it to talk to my mom to test both of our cellular (I got her the same Series 7 watch) for 1.5 hours. Now at 9:40pm - so five hours later it is at 10% and on red. I have an Anker USB-C wall charger that I am using but seriously, it shouldn't need to be charged after only 5 hours.

I'm happy to change chargers or whatever - but I thought getting to a 100% green circle would get me more than five hours even talking on the phone.

Went to Genius Bar and they told me to do the repair service via 1800 number because it’s quicker. They also said I could get a replacement Watch with a credit hold until my watch is repaired or examined. So I left called the 1800 number and they said I can’t get a replacement and basically the wait is long to have a repair and it’s not quicker. So I should of just did it at the store. Also I will be without a watch for a long time. I really regret this purchase. My battery drains and now it does this thing where I reached my movement and exercise goal in a few hours while I sit at a desk. Errgh!

That means when you wear it you enter your Lock Screen code to unlock it.

Don't bother though, my idea did not work. I lost 80% overnight in sleep mode, when Apple says you should only lose less than 30%. I give up on this thing.. Only option is to wait for a software update that isn't coming. If it were, they would have done it by now considering this has been going on for 4 months now.. Makes me incredibly hesitant to purchase any new Apple product after this experience and lack of support from Apple.

There is no physical sim card in ANY Apple Watch, so it makes no sense at all that a sim card needs to be sent to you. ALL Apple Watches uses e-Sim. Verizon, would however have to set up the watch on their network if you want to use cellular data on it, or you can just use the watch as GPS only, if you are waiting for the actual replacement watch.
