My mother just fell victim to a phishing email

My mother just fell victim to a phishing email that she called by phone to stop a "bill for mcafee" by giving the phisher her apple itunes password. her phone is linked with credit card for itunes for things like UBER. so, what should she do? she changed her password, but should she cancel credit cards too? enable double authentication? thanks

Yes, she should change her Apple ID password -- using a strong password -- and enable two-factor authentication.


It's probably not necessary to cancel credit cards as full card information isn't posted anywhere that is accessible. But, watch the accounts for a few days to check for unwanted purchases. She was likely faster than the scam artist if she changed her password quickly, but if you start to see weird purchases, then I'd cancel all the cards/request new numbers.

Thanks... yes, it was changed about an hour after the phishing call. i would have think they could have accessed her account and maybe they could have change her password and user id. so thats good we could change it. plus, it seems you need to input the code they send you on the phone to access even changing the credit card. they did have her (on the phone) install that desktop software "ANY DESK". i guess that allows access to her PC but she doesnt own a PC anymore. i deleted that from the phone and didnt see any apple Pay transactions.
