It appears I must have an Internet-based calendar in order to send calendarcc invitations from my iPhone.

Is this correct?

Hello UncleHud,

Thanks for that info and for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, you are unable to send Calendar invites on your iPhone. To do this you need to use iCloud, Microsoft Exchange, or CalDAV based account with your Calendar app and here is more info:
