Hi Andy,
"Highlight color" in current versions on Pages applies mostly to applying a temporary (and non-printing) colour to draw attention to selected text while the text/document is being reviewed and edited. the highlight colour is assigned by the software, and is different for each person working on the document. This highlighting is applied by selecting the text, then pressing shift-command-H on the kyboard. There's no mention in the in the User Guide Available via the Help menu) of how to set a particular colour.
A second type of highlighting is to 'add a background colour to text'. The background colour can be any colour, set by the user, and can be applied to single characters, words, groups of words, or to a paragraph. BG colour applied to a paragraph extends to left and right margins of any line with text in that paragraph; BG colour applied to text appears only behind the selected text (including spaces between words when more than one word is selected in a contiguous group.
Colours are set in the Style/Text section of the Format Inspector using the colour picker list of the color Wheel.
This type of highlighting will be included in printed copies of the document.
For more details, and information specific to version 8, click the Help menu and search Numbers Help for 'highlight color'.
Regards,
Barry
