My iPad went in for repair.
it was a disaster from start to finish.
i Finally got in touch and they said a new one was on the way when I just wanted a small crack repaired in the screen.
anyway the new iPad came and it has a weird name already. Is this refurbished then and not a new iPad? In which case this whole disaster just got worse. I don’t want some second hand piece of garbage. I want my iPad with the crack, or a new one.

To expedite speedy customer service, Apple ONLY offers in/out of waranty device replacements.
Depending on how old the device being repaired is, Apple, and its authourised service/repair centers, at their own discetion, may decide to replace your damaged iPad year snd model with another new device OR a refurbished device for the device replacement, if the iPad model being repaired is fairly old.
If your iPad is older, chances are Apple will ONLY replace your damaged iPad with a refurbished model.
You may NOT get a new device for a used, much older iPad model.

Apple does not fix iPads unless they’re restoring them themselves. This means that if your tablet is broken and is under Apple’s one year limited warranty OR under AppleCare you’ll be receiving a refurbished iPad from Apple.
In some cases, if you get an iPad and it breaks and you bring it back to the store that you bought it from (non-apple) they might replace it with a new one off their shelf. This is in the most rare of cases.
when you receive an Apple refurbished iPad it’s in very new condition. The iPad itself will come with another 1 year limited warranty from Apple. If you’ve had AppleCare on your broken iPad and you’re getting it replaced by Apple then you’ll need to cancel your AppleCare on the broken device as the AppleCare will not switch over to the new one. Once you receive your replacement the iPad will give you 54 days to purchase AppleCare for the replacement which covers you for two incidents a year for two years. If something was to happen within the first year this will not effect your AppleCare but rather your 1 year limited warranty from Apple.

If you live in a country where Apple and Apple authourised repair centers have to attempt an actual repair then this maybe the case.
A repair may have been done/tried/attempted.
In some major parts of the world, in order to expedite as speedy a repair process, as possible, Apple does NOT repair iPads, but only offers in/out of warranty replacement devices ( possibly new or refirbished mobile devices ), in lieu of an actual device repair.
