HomePod keeps asking for Apple ID password.

Basically I enter my password in the home app, it works for like three seconds and then asks again. I have looked up tutorials on YouTube and none of them have worked, do you know how to fix this?

The problem reoccured with 15.3. I was puzzled because it only happened with stereo Homepods that are default output for my TV 4K. A single Homepod in another room worked well.

Eventually I found that I needed to:

a) change the ATV default output to the TV

b) go to the stereo Homepod settings in the Home app on my iPhone/iPad

c) go to Music & Podcasts/Primary User

d) select myself as the Primary User (not Homepod Account) but...

e) enter my AppleID & password for the "Homepod Account" (leave myself as Primary User)

f) receive a login error message

g) enter them again - this time they were accepted (maybe because there are two Homepods involved?)

h) test it with a Hey Siri request

i) change the ATV default audio back to the stereo Homepods

j) test Hey Siri again - it worked for me!

I was having this issue as well. Random on all my HomePods and HomePod Minis. Pretty sure it had to do with the previous software version (15.2). I updated to 15.3 yesterday and haven't seen it since. I normally would have seen it by now, so I think 15.3 addressed this issue.

I did have a lot of trouble updating 1 of my HomePods, but a reset --> remove accessory took care of that. FWIW, it was stereo paired with another HomePod... not sure if that was a factor (never had been in the past).

Good luck!

I encountered this bug while trying to update the stereo Homepods to 15.3 today (it wouldn't let me update). Eventually I got the update to work by changing my Apple TV default audio setting from the Homepods to the TV. The update then succeeded and I have now made them the default output again.

So... in my case it seems to be related to the stereo Homepods being the default output for the Apple TV. Having them as default output has also affected Airplay from other devices, but I can live with that.

BTW "No time to Die" and "Dune" are brilliant through the stereo Homepods!

Hello tieghan14,

Thanks for reaching out through the Apple Support Communities about that repeat prompt for your Apple ID password when attempting to manage your HomePod using the Home app.

To verify, what device are you using to access the Home app?

Have you been able to successfully manage your HomePod using the Home app in the past?

If so, how long has this been happening?

Hopefully those details will help to isolate this behavior further.

Take care.

Yes, I've been having this problem as well. I have two original HomePods and two HomePod minis and they seem to all forget my Apple ID password and I have to keep re-entering it for each device. I'm running the latest version on all my HomePods and all my iOS devices.

It's frustrating to ask Siri to turn off the lights and she says, "you'll have to sign into your iCloud account first".

I have the same problem, accessing the home app via my iPhone and iPad. I have one original homepod and two homepod minis and this only happens on the original homepod. However, it does everything, turning lights on or off, setting scenes, running shortcuts, playing music etc. However, it's kind of always there asking to re enter my password. I have the latest software on all these devices.
