9th gen iPad (no lightning port) incompatible with ALL Apple Pencils?

Hi,

I feel like I’m going crazy. I have a 9th gen iPad. It does NOT have a lightning port. Therefore I cannot pair it with Apple Pencil 1st gen.

EVERYTHING I find online says my iPad has a lightning port and is only compatible with Apple Pencil 1, including Apple’s website.

I have a USB C port!

I thought, “Okay, I guess I need Apple Pencil 2.” Went out and bought one. It will not connect magnetically to the right side of my iPad, only to the left side of my iPad. All instructions for pairing Apple Pencil 2 specify right side. I’ve never had such trouble with an Apple product before.

Please help. Did I by some strange variant iPad that is not compatible with any Apple Pencil?

iPad, iPadOS 15

iPad (9th generation) has a lightning port. Source: I’m using one right now to write this message. It is definitely compatible with Apple Pencil (1st generation). Source: My friend says that’s what his mother does. You just need to remove the cap off the Apple Pencil, and a lightning port is there for pairing and charging. I’m not sure how you would have managed to get an iPad 9th generation prototype that has no flat edges but USB-C. I think Apple will redesign the base iPad before adding USB-C. Take it to an Apple Store if you are unsure.

The device would have surely come with a usb-c to lightning cable for charging, usb-c goes into the included 20w power brick, and the lightning end goes into your iPad.
