Turn off Auto-Enhance / edit on iPhone

Whenever I take a photo on my Iphone 13 Pro, a few seconds after the photo auto enhance, making it look terrible. I notice a change of color, increase of sharpness and crazy shadow lifting.

I've researched and looks like a lot of people have the same issue and no solution.

Any updates, any success stories on solving this?

I’m so happy I finally got to fix it. I downloaded and installed the new software 15.2.1. I then went to settings then camera then to formats and then turned on the apple pro raw option. I think this works for Pros only but now the pictures are gorgeous and they no longer change to those dark and dull ones due to deep fusion.

Oops! I have the Pro. Photo software is embarrassing. Changing to RAw does not solve the issue. The only fix I’ve found is to turn highlights down by a ton. Ridiculous to spend this much $ on a phone when most pll upgrade the phone purely for the camera upgrades. iPhone 13 camera is useless without a third party app. Not a workable solution for something that costs this much $.

I have the same issue on my iPhone 13 Pro. When taking a photo, few seconds after I take the photo it automatically enhances the photo making it look over exposed, over saturation, washed out and peoples faces become less

sharp. It seems to be worse in bright back light outdoor photos with people in the photo.  Every time I speak to someone

at Apple, they state they are not aware of the problem and that I need to make my complaint on the apple feedback forum. But you also get a different answer from every customer care person. I told them all they have to do is open up google, there are so many complaints about this issue its crazy how they have not come up with a fix! They noted, making the complaint to customer care begins and ends with that call. Customer care does not escalate the concerns.  I just recently switched from being an android user for many years and am super disappointed in Apples response and lack of concerns for the mess of photos I am now getting.  As of today, customer care has no idea if a fix is even in the works and their simple answer is “I am sorry.”  Such a disappointment all the way around!

I’m to the point of throwing my iPhone 13 against a wall due to the incredibly horrible camera on this specific model.

I have over 15,000 pics most taken from other earlier phones. They’re great. The pics from this camera are horrendous. I’ve been to Apple and the Genius Bar twice with no fix. Apparently iPhone 13 is specifically known for the HDR issues and there is NO WAY to shut it off (iPhone 13 Pro doesn’t have the issue) Why would Apple not recall this phone?! Because it’s a hardware issue, software updates do nothing.

Here is the WORST part: the phone will continue post developing ON PICS THAT WERE TAKEN MONTHS AGO and ruin those pics if I simply open the pic in the photos app. Huge, wart-like bubbles on any skin, washed colors, etc. completely ruined hundreds of photos and memories. And I cannot reverse that awful post developing. I don’t have the option of taking RAW photos on this model. I can’t turn off HDR. It’s insane.

Apple is doing nothing about this. Look at the number of people above who “Me too”’d these forums!

To turn off Auto-Enhance or edit photos on an iPhone using the built-in Photos app, follow these steps:

  1. Open Photos App: Launch the "Photos" app on your iPhone.
  2. Select Photo: Choose the photo you want to edit by tapping on it.
  3. Tap "Edit": Once the photo is open, tap the "Edit" button located in the top-right corner of the screen. It looks like three horizontal sliders.
  4. Adjustments and Filters: If Auto-Enhance is enabled, you might see automatic adjustments applied to the photo. To turn off Auto-Enhance or manually adjust settings:
    • Tap the "Magic Wand" icon at the top of the editing options (this is the Auto-Enhance feature).
    • If it's currently on, tap it again to turn off Auto-Enhance. The icon should become white instead of blue.
  1. Manual Editing: To make manual adjustments:
    • Tap the sliders icon (three overlapping circles) to access manual editing options.
    • Adjust settings like Light, Color, and B&W (if applicable) by sliding your finger left or right on the screen.
  1. Undo Changes: If you've made changes and want to revert to the original, tap "Cancel" to discard the edits.
  2. Save Changes: Once you're satisfied with the edits, tap "Done" to save the changes.

This process allows you to turn off Auto-Enhance and manually edit your photos using the native Photos app on your iPhone, providing more control over the final look of your images.

PLEASE get rid of this feature or provide a way to turn it off! I am a student with visual disability and I use Apple products for note taking in class primarily because of the ease of taking pictures of lecture slides and whiteboard material and incorporating it into my notes. The automatic contrast makes it impossible for me or any of my transcribing software to see any pictures I take. I have been a loyal Apple customer for years and currently have 8 Apple devices, but this one feature renders most of them useless for my primary purpose of using them. If this feature is not fixed, I will have to switch to another platform for my next phone, tablet, and laptop purchases.

upgraded from iPhone 11 to the 15 plus and the camera auto adjust is TERRIBLE!!! The photo is drastically different from what is in the viewfinder when taking the photo. What’s worse is that if you’re a person of colour - their stupid photo adjust makes you look GRAY and textured hair will look like static. Really Apple?? A mandatory auto adjust that is only somewhat bearable for white people??? And no way to turn it off???

SO frustrating. My iPhone 6 took waaaaay better photos than my new 14. I regret buying this phone. I wish I sought out a refurbished model from before deep fusion (the effect that looks gross) became a problem. The worst part is that skin looks so bad! I took a picture of my hand holding something and I looked dead. I don't like the .HEIC files either. They are not compatible with many programs. I helped a coworker put together a slideshow presentation and we had to convert every photo, ugh. I These awful new photos are also impossible to edit on Instagram. I am surprised Apple isn't motivated by that even if they don't care about customer feedback. I won't get an iPhone again if this isn't fixed. </3

It seems like deep fusion doesn't happen in screenshots or live photos if you choose a new key photo. This effect does happen on the key photo that is automatically selected. Turning off HDR in settings does not seem to solve the issue.
