Turn off Auto-Enhance / edit on iPhone

Whenever I take a photo on my Iphone 13 Pro, a few seconds after the photo auto enhance, making it look terrible. I notice a change of color, increase of sharpness and crazy shadow lifting.

I've researched and looks like a lot of people have the same issue and no solution.

Any updates, any success stories on solving this?

I’m so happy I finally got to fix it. I downloaded and installed the new software 15.2.1. I then went to settings then camera then to formats and then turned on the apple pro raw option. I think this works for Pros only but now the pictures are gorgeous and they no longer change to those dark and dull ones due to deep fusion.

Oh man.....Thank you for finding and posting this. This problem was driving me nuts using the stock Apple camera app and the Photos app! I resorted mostly to using the ProCamera app from Cocologics, but there are some features in the Apple camera app that I still like and use so I bounce back to it often, and then see that crazy result in the Photos app with the auto-brightened photos. Finally, with this setting off, freedom! :)

I have an iphone 11 ( I’ve stopped getting new ones because they are just too expensive and frankly I don’t need all those features. I just get refurbished ones on ebay). Even this phone enhances photos. I was trying to capture a really cool moonlight scene and the stupid thing kept enhancing small bits of light coming from other places, thus ruining the photo. I just want the photo to look like what I see.

Thanks for voicing this because I’m EXHAUSTED. I just spent over a thousand dollars on the iPhone 15 pro max and it’s unbelievable to me that this is the camera that it comes with. Every time I take a photo it looks awful. I came here seeking help just to find that there are countless people with the same issue and Apple - a company that supposedly prides in creating customer centered products - has done nothing about it. I’m beyond disappointed.

Dear Apple-

I need to turn off auto enhance in order to take photos to send to my doctor - of a potential allergic reaction to a medication. Did you guys not consider this happens a lot, I have taken photos of a knee replacement, potentially infected cuts when on vacation out of the counrty, questionable swelling… that I can think of off the top of my head. Im sending these to close friends who happen to be in the medical field. Meanwhile they aren't accurate. Because for some reason you think your iphone knows better than I do.

People can edit if they want a look to their photos (even with the tools in your camera app, use a terrible filter or tuning app). Better yet use an actual camera. And learn how to take photos. (My nikon is not in my house at the moment - regardless should i have to use a professional camera to snap something for a doctor??)

So its 11pm and this is my only camera. Really apple - do better. There is NO excuse for not having the ability to disable this feature.

cchattom - WRITE the letter. Please. I attempted to photograph a skin issue I was having for my dr. Could not do it. A few months later, I needed to document bruising and such - couldn't do that also. Apple is not only screwing up people's photo ops, they are bordering on negligence with this. Think of every time someone decided to stand up against an abuser - but then could not get accurate photos, because of the iphone. This is absolutely disgusting. I am beyond sickened by the fact this isn't being addressed or fixed.

Just upgraded iPhone 13 plain from iPhone 11 plain which I have been using since 2019; almost 5 years. To my utter shock and horror the selfies are horrible. All lightings disappear and becomes darker. It is very frustrating, my 11 took amazing selfies with all natural lighting; I'm super regretful for upgrading. The only thing that works is when you use the burst button but all other pictures are horrible. Apple plz give us an option to remove this auto enhancement . We hate it.
