MacBook Pro 2021 M1 crackling sound from Apple TV app

My new MacBook Pro 2021 M1 16" has recently started outputting crackling sound when playing from Apple TV app. I have found various posts and articles on similar issues but none with actual working solutions or this specific. Here is what is most odd and interesting...

the crackling sound from an Apple TV app video only happens when in FULL SCREEN. If I reduce the display size, normal window or put in PiP then the sound appears to be normal with no crackling. As soon as I move to FULL SIZE the crackling restarts.

I suspect there is a bug on how M1 handles graphic vs sound. If no luck finding a solution then I guess it's back to Apple for a fix or replacement, it's barely a couple of months old.

I'm having the exact same problem on my 16-inch MacBook Pro M1 Max.

Anything I watch on the Apple TV app has a weird rumbling, crackling, or pulsating noise whenever there are low frequencies in the audio.

I can confirm that this happens only in the Apple TV app (not on Youtube, Spotify, or anywhere else) and only when I watch content in fullscreen mode. As soon as I exit fullscreen mode, the crackling stops.

I can also confirm that changing the sample rate to 48 kHz in the Audio MIDI Setup app solves the issue.

Apple, please solve this issue!

Well, you know, it's quite possibly related. Because when I'm tired of hearing the crunch from the speakers, I put on my Airpods max and the sound doesn't sound smooth there either. I feel like kicking it. So then I reboot.

So instead of the crunching, it could be an overall system jamming issue. That's why the bluetooth mouse was addressed.

So the question is why Apple hasn't fixed it and whether it can be fixed at all and the warranty is running.

So. Imagine we have two identical MacBook pro M1 pros 16” computers next to each other with the same version of MacOS running say the exact same version of VLC. One makes the unwanted noises and the other not. That was my point. There must be a difference so if it’s a software issue within MacOS then where is the actual common difference?

I didn’t realise it was obvious that everyone had different software after reading the whole thread so you must have a step on me. Also, I didn’t know people had different problems, rather a common audio issue that people are identifying as the same problem.

To be honest, your logic has similarly got me confused.

Remember though the first post wasn’t anything to do with the sheer amount of stuff you’re running. Merely a question regarding a noise that the OP heard whilst running Apple TV which is why I posted here in the first place.

Diagnosing your audio issues is surely something very different to someone controlling an Apple TV as running “vast” number of tabs over two browsers seems an extreme way to use a Mac laptop for most. Especially when you list an additional paragraph of development software you’re running at the same time.

The replies are to you and the comment you made, not to the opening comment or anyone talking about Apple TV.

If it’s a software issue then it’s weird it’s not happening to everyone with the same hardware.

We're simply responding to your assertion that its weird that everyone doesn't have this issue. If it's software related, and everyone runs different software, then that is exactly what would happen, some would see issues and some would not.

Out of respect to the OP, I try not to get carried too far away from the topic in hand. Crackling through the speakers whilst using the Apple TV app was the original question I believe. Now it seems that this is also about someone who uses software development software whilst having two browsers running tons of tabs. . I’m not sure this situation will get us closer to the solution that the OP was looking for if the problem can be found in much simpler software configurations.

Following your logic, it would be better to delete all messages here, except for the first one. I believe that the forums were created to collect all cases related to the problem in one way or another, without any restrictions, and you start making up non-existent problems out of it. The management of Apple does not make us closer to solving the problem, which will soon scare away all customers with its latent behavior. The list of bugs that have not been fixed for years is simply huge.

No disrespect but I’d appreciate that you not claim that I wish that messages be deleted here. Your words not mine and not something I believe in anyway unless they are against posting rules.

I do agree that forums are a good place to observe different experiences from a range of users but they are easier to navigate when there is a better connection to the original poster’s question or comments. I was a senior moderator on a large music forum for nearly twenty years of my life and I know how long threads can almost forget the original OP and understand how easy it is for this to happen.

Funny thing is. If the OP was experiencing the same issue that people are collectively having here then maybe finding out what software he is using rather than from someone clogged with dev software and pages of browser tabs from different manufacturers it may make it easier to find out where the real issue is.

I work as an audio technician and was about to buy a new MacBook Pro but after reading about these issues Im holding off until the issue is confirmed as fixed, or at least addressed publicly by Apple as something that will be eventually fixed.

Can anyone confirm wether the issue is still present in the latest version of macOS (I think this would be 12.4)?
