Unable to install Sierra after buying used macbook

Hi everyone I’ve searched high and low for answers and I cannot find any that are the exact same problem I’m having

i bought a used 2016 MacBook from a guy yesterday and he restored it to factory settings and was installing Sierra when he messaged and asked if I just wanted to finish the process at home so I said yes.

I got a failed error message and have tried maybe ten times since and cannot get anything to work.

here is what I have tried so far:

going into disk utility and running first aid on all volumes. I get an error message for them all.

the following error “”first aid process has failed. If possible back up the data on this volume. Click done to continue. <— I get this on all 6 volumes including “Macintosh HD” “Macintosh HD - Data” “Preboot” “Recovery” “Update” and “VM”

then I tried recovery on the “AppleAPFSMedia” and get the following error: “First Aid found corruption that needs to be repaired. To repair the startup volume, run First Aid from recovery. Click done to continue”

under details it says the same for both errors:

”verifying storage system. Storage system check exit code 8. Operation successful”

I have then tried to erase all disks and I get yet another error message: “Erase process has failed. Click done to continue”

under details it says “Erasing APFS Volume File Content. An internal error has occurred. Operation failed”

I also have 9 disk images listed under the volumes.

I have no idea what to try. I’ve tried Mountain and unmounting too.
