Garageband on Catalina 10.15.7

I did a clean install on my iMac (21.5 inch late 2013 - 2,7 GHz i5).

I want to use this Mac for my sons to make music and want to use GarageBand (as it should be the most simple application to do this). However, what I saw is that I cannot download GarageBand for Catalina 10.15.7.

Any suggestions how I can have the correct version of GarageBand on my iMac? Or is it just Apple being annoying again...

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, @nielso@12!

We understand you're having trouble downloading GarageBand on your iMac. We'd be happy to provide information to help you address this.

Have you previously purchased GarageBand? Redownload a compatible version of GarageBand using these steps: Install purchases from the App Store on Mac

"Reinstall apps

If you uninstalled or deleted an app that you purchased with your Apple ID, you can install it again.

  1. In the App Store  on your Mac, click your name in the bottom-left corner, or click Sign In if you’re not already.
  2. Locate the purchased app you want to reinstall, then click the Download button ."

If you continue having issues, please let us know what error messages you see when you try to download it.

Have a great day!

Have you previously purchased GarageBand and is it in list of your recent purchases, when you sign into the AppStore with your Apple ID? Then you can follow the advice of Alma and reinstall from the Recent Purchases. But you will have to use your AppleID at the AppStore.

If GarageBand is not in your recent purchases, it will be more involved.

The App Store is only offering the applications for the most recent system versions. You have to get the applications for each system version, while the system on your Mac is the current version.

Apple is encouraging us this way to keep our system versions current.

To download GarageBand for the first time now, you have to purchase it (for free) on a Mac with macOS 11 Big Sur or later to associate it with your AppleID. I think your iMac is not compatible with Big Sur (macOS Big Sur is compatible with these computers - Apple Support)

Do you have a newer Mac with macOS Big Sur or later installed or can you get access to one? Then purchase GarageBand there with your AppleID and then try to download GarageBand again on your iMac.
