My iPad is completely dead after it updated. It wont switch on or charge. I have tried a hard restart as well as connecting to iTunes. The computer doesn’t recognise the iPad. When charging the iPad has a blank screen.

It sounds like a battery failure but we, just users like you, cannot diagnose that kind of issue remotely, sorry.
Reading also the steps you already performed, I suggest that you make an appointment (*) and have your device inspected at an Apple Store or AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) among this list:--> Apple – Location Selector. After checking it out, they'll give you all the available options.
