Duplicate Contacts

I have 2 of every contact on my iMac. Everything is synced with iCloud. If I log into iCloud, there are no duplicates. I also do not have duplicates on my iPhone, my iPad, or my MacBook Pro. It is only on the iMac. I have tried the recommended fix. I turned off syncing in Preferences. I deleted all the contacts on my iMac. I turned on syncing again in Preferences, then opened up contacts on my iMac. All the duplicates are still there.

This is extremely irritating! Please, can somebody tell me how to fix this?!?

Hi barbfromfremont,

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today with duplicate contacts on your iMac.

It sounds like you are syncing with iCloud. Are these the steps you have tried: If you see duplicate contacts after setting up iCloud Contacts

"On your Mac

  1. Make a copy of your contacts.
  2. Open Contacts.
  3. From the Card menu, select Card > Look for Duplicates.
  4. When asked, click Merge.
  5. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until no duplicates are found.
  6. Make another copy of your iCloud Contacts."

Let us know.

Have a fantastic day!

barbfromfremont,

Thanks for checking.

It is possible that is the issue. Me.com and iCloud.com are essentially interchangeable. Try turning off Contacts anywhere you sync with me. Even removing the account wouldn't hurt. If someone sends an email to me.com it should come to your iCloud.com account if it is the same name: iCloud: About your @icloud.com, @me.com, and @mac.com email addresses.

Check your iPhone in Settings > Contacts > Accounts.

Also check your Mac in System Preferences > Internet Accounts.

If that still doesn't resolve the issue, reach out here: Get Support.

Have a great week!
