Songs corrupted after sync

Songs that have played fine for years are suddenly not on my iPhone 12. The next song comes up and playback stops. pressing the play button does nothing. I can skip to the next song. Norte that these songs play fine on my iMac. I've been syncing music for years, first time THIS has happened.

Also note that I've dumped the music from my iPhone and completely resynced it. Same issue. I then removed them from the sync screen by telling it to not sync music. I then added a couple of albums and a single playlist as a test. Playlist has corrupted songs. I really don't want to reset my iPhone. A lot of work to get it back to the way I want it.
