I’m iPhone 11. When I’m in the Facebook app my phone will not ring or vibrate. A banner simply appears at the top showing me a call is coming in. Frustrating as ****. If I were to leave my phone down and walk away into the kitchen for some reason I would never know I had a phone call!

This issue, it seems to me, is related to the fact that Facebook takes over control of the phones speaker when you open the app.

When you have FB open, the speaker becomes dedicated to FB.

This could be related to the “autostart” feature on FB that has videos play automatically when you scroll over them.

On my iPhone 13 Pro, the FB app if opened, will kill radio broadcasts and other sounds as well, as it takes over sole use of the speaker.

I have not played around with the “autostart” and other functions of the phone or the FB app.

But some of you tech guys here will know what I’m talking about and you should look in this direction.

Quite simple. Because initially I didn’t realise it was an issue with the FB app so I asked Apple. Afterwards I checked to see when it happened and realised it was always when the FB app was open. Although It would be interesting to know how a third app can affect iPhones to such a degree yet nothing can be done to improve the matter.

I spent something like 15-20 hours going over this issue with Apple support.

Probably closer to the 20 hours.

The same agent called me back every single day for OVER two weeks to continue trying to find a resolution to the problem.

We didn’t have any success, and they even ran test on my phone remotely. They sent me links that had me download something to my phone that would record what is going on on the phone while we ran different tests. Those logs were sent to Apple engineers but nobody could find a problem.

in the end they finally made an appointment for me to go in to an Apple store an hour away from my home, and they couldn’t find any problems either.

After our exhaustive effort it definitely seems like it it’s a Facebook problem.

This is a security issue - we purchased your phone primarily to make & receive calls the app functions are secondary to this, the facebook app is controlling the primary OS function of the phone, the app should not be approved by Apple while it operated this way, this will be the last Apple phone we have purchased until issues like this are resolved

I don’t think that is correct. My wife have stated to me several times that she is not having this issue. This morning she said, hey I happen to have my phone in my hand and it visually notified of a call, but it is not ringing. I think a lot of people don’t realize that it doesn’t effect AirPods, watches, etc. you might just think it is fine because your other devices are alerting you.

THANK YOU! I have spent over 8 hours in the past 2 days with 4 different apple support advisors, none of whom knew about this. The senior advisor had me wipe my whole phone and restore,& when it didn’t resolve made me an appointment to get a new phone!!!!! Then he told me it’s a Facebook problem & only they can fix it. Now I have to restore my entire phone. HUGE waste of time. I should’ve Googled first instead of calling Apple Support!!!!
