my kids are bypassing screen time using my husband's iphone

My kids send a request for screen time, and then use my husband’s phone to approve it. They simply pull down on the notification and are able to approve the request without being required to enter the screen time passcode. My husband leaves his phone laying around, and I can’t fix him, so how can I fix screen time?

details: yes we have a screen time passcode, no they don’t know it (I’ve changed it several times to random numbers and they continue to be able to use this work around)

I think what you want to do (on your husband's iPhone) is disable the Screen Time notifications from appearing on the Lock Screen. On his iPhone, go to Settings>Notifications>Screen Time and under "Alerts" make sure "Lock Screen" is not checked.

If your husband's phone allows access to Notification Center from the Lock Screen (Settings>Face ID & Passcode, then under "Allow Access When Locked" > Notification Center) then you may want to disable Screen Time notifications from appearing in the Notification Center as well since the kids would be able to get the notification from there and do the same thing -- you will see that "Notification Center" option right next to "Lock Screen" under "Alerts" in Settings>Notifications>Screen Time (make sure it is not checked).

I'm assuming your husband has a passcode, Touch ID or FaceID set on his iPhone to unlock it - because if they can unlock it they get still get to the notification.

Hope this helped!

Should have said this in the previous message, but just be aware that if they know the phone’s passcode they can still access all the settings and could turn the notifications back on if they know (or can figure out) how to.

I don’t use Screen Time myself, or have any kiddos, so I’m not sure, but maybe you can turn off the ability for them to request more time from their devices in your husband’s phone’s Screen Time settings. Check the Screen Time settings and see if that’s an option, or maybe another member who does know if that’s possible will let us know here.

He does have a passcode and Face ID set up. They know his passcode, but not the screen time passcode.

I do want them to know our phone passcodes as we don’t have a landline and they don’t have phones, so our phones could be necessary in an emergency.

Any phone can be used to call emergency services, with or without a passcode. Even a phone with no phone service can be used to call 911 in the US. That's required by law.
