Why are annotations not saving and disappearing on Preview??

Apparently this was an issue two years ago and it's not been fixed. Just spent one and half hours making edits to a PDF in Preview and then saved it. Reopened it and everything has gone!!! Tried to revert but there's no saved data on the annotations - text, markup, etc - it's all gone. Why is this still happening Apple?? How can we get the data back? I was making inspired copy changes - it's late and I'm tired, and this is so frustrating. :-|

yes! I've been having the same issue. I don't have it for all of the annotations; however, I'll save the pdf after highlighting, notes, and underlying, and when I reopen, half of the annotation are gone. It's very infuriating as I take notes for a upper division college course this way. It's highly annoying and makes it nearly impossible to remember and keep all the work done. I suggest downloading Adobe acrobat and trying to use that.
