Why does my M1 Pro Macbook keep freezing?

I've used my machine for a little while now and ever since I got it I've realized a lot of flaws.

The screen freezes randomly for 3-4 seconds – so far, I have only installed Firefox. And sometimes the speakers gets cut off while making a weird sound – the same sound of a radio frequency type of thing.

I thought it had something to do with apps not supporting the M1 chip, hence why haven't installed any apps yet, but it has happened 2 times an hour ever since I started up the machine back in November.

Hello ekstraordinary,

Thanks for reaching out through the Apple Support Communities about those audio and performance behaviors with your MacBook Pro.

Is macOS all up to date? Update macOS on Mac

Do you have any external devices connected to your MacBook Pro? If so, do those behaviors persist if you temporarily disconnect your external devices?

Does that persist if you boot your Mac into safe mode per the steps in this article? How to use safe mode on your Mac

It can take a few extra minutes to boot into safe mode. Your screen may flash or flicker while in safe mode. Those behaviors are expected.

Hopefully those details will help to isolate these behaviors further.

Take care.

If you would like to work with readers here, download and run this little "discovery" utility named Etrecheck. it produces a pre-anonomyzed report that can be posted back on the forums.

It shows how your Mac is performing, what software you have added, what might be slowing it down, and a digest of recent crashes.

Without trying ANY debugging (at least none that you mentioned) you are blaming Apple. That is not right.

This is acceptable to Apple? I don’t think it should be. If this is the standard that Apple is going to expect us to live with, than they need to come down in the price of their products by hundreds if not thousands of dollars that they charge their customers.

I can see why Apple is getting some negativity. They apparently do not give a **** what they sell us as long as they keep getting paid millions upon millions of dollars worldwide. I would be curious to know just how many hours are spent addressing issues that were known would be problematic for the purchaser prior to the sale of the products.

If the issues were not known, then why not?

If 🍏 was still operating out of a garage while they tried to make a decent product, this would make a certain amount of sense and could possibly have been forgiven if addressed and fixed appropriately or a new product issued in replace of a product with the issues I have been reading as I research for the products I need to fulfill a project I want to implement. I was told that the Apple product as opposed to PC product was the way to go, especially for photography. My own experiences with Apples products, combined with those of the people who have taken time to ask for support regarding their issues and problems with their own products, leaves me to think that Apple is not the place to sink all my money into in order to accomplish my goals. It appears that their products, support, and helpfulness, is so below par as to be totally unacceptable. I am both surprised and saddened to learn just how much the proverbial wool has been pulled over our eyes by a company that has a totally different reputation perpetuated by the company themselves and the people earning commissions from the sales of their defective products.

A company that continues to run successfully, based solely on the then well deserved reputation of its products. Products that were developed only after long arduous hours of time and energy, and quality control backed by terrific customer service, is just wrong. To continue to sell subpar items to the unsuspecting world is beyond wrong and needs to be stopped.

Apple needs to clean up their act, control the customer service provided by the authorized companies that represent the Apple brand, and produce less products that they should be ashamed of and work on producing better products to their faithful customers.

I, for one, am not impressed with what I have seen thus far and refuse to continue to support their actions, or lack thereof. Apple has proven to me to be more interested in the almighty dollar than the in the best interest of their clients. These companies need to be stopped once and for all. They are a prime example of the rich getting richer, while the poor pay them to get and stay there on the garbage they sell us.

Safe Mode is used for testing of certain concepts. You are not expected to endure its taking extra time of flashing the screen once you get your results.

Although your comment isn't really helpful I really see your point, I feel frustrated too. But the reason why I purchase Apple products is mainly security. I'm still very disappointed about the situation because I don't recall buying an Apple product without it being "fully finished" – if you know what I mean.

But you do make great points. I would love to hear more of your anger sometime :D
