I am unable to send mail from my earthlink accounts from my Mac. I have confirmed that all the settings in Mail are correct. I think the issue is with the OS or machine because I can send without problem from iPad and iPhone, and the Webmail functions fine. I m running OS 12.1 Monterey. I receive mail from the accounts without problem. Suggestions about how to fix this?

Try booting to Safe Mode. That boot up takes minutes and clears caches and other things that may resolve your problem.

See if you can add the setting while in Safe Mode. If it works then boot normally and see if it still works.
Tried. It had no effect. But I paused the VPN and that did seem to solve the problem, at least for the moment. I will take this up with the VPN provider.

Does " earthlink accounts " require Application Specific Passwords to function with their Service ?
Much like Apple Requires for Non Native E-mail clients to access iCloud E-mail accounts.
Could not connect to this SMTP server. Check your network connection and that you entered correct information in the Account preferences. Also verify that the server supports SSL. If it does not, deselect the Use TLS/SSL

I confirmed that the settings match up. before I posted. And I reconfirmed a moment ago.
OS keeps moving the outgoing servers to offline. No such problem with either iPad or iPhone.
Commercial VPNs should only be used if Mandated by Corporate Head Office for working remotely. Otherwise - ones Privacy and Security touted by the VPN is suspect.
