this is a CONSTANT source of frustration!
I've now manually added artwork to my albums (because 'download album artwork' never adequately works so many times (esp when changing computers) and it doesn't even save it anymore.
All my David Bowie albums, for instance, have some crappy generic 'best of Bowie' artwork.
and so, so many other wrong album covers.

This is like some or other guest come round your house, flipping through your LP’s, CD’s and/or cassettes then putting the media back in the wrong sleeve/case. Downright rude and disrespectful. Clearly whoever works in Apple Music does not own a physical music collection - if you’re reading this, prove me wrong and get this fixed!!
That said, looking through iTunes (on a PC), I’ve just found a check box in Store Preferences -> Store: Share details about your library with Apple (This allows iTunes to get artists images, album covers and related information based on the items in your library). I’m unchecking this to see if it does the trick…

For best results you should always use embedded artwork rather than rely on iTunes to match and download from the store. If you have Apple Music or iTunes Match and find that it gives you the wrong art for purchases then you may need to hide the items from your purchase history, then allow your local files to match or upload.
