Editing problems in contacts

My iPhone 8 has stopped accepting changes I enter in my contacts addresses. I found a “solution” originally posted in May 2021 that involved entering a new address, saving it, closing the app and then deleting the old file. That is a workaround, thanks to the poster, but it is not a solution This problem just began for me a few weeks ago, after a software update. What is Apple doing to fix this?
